The job
New carpet for a basement with a painted concrete floor. The photos come straight from the job: the carpet was on site and rolled out on June 12, 2026, and by the next morning, June 13, it was down with the furniture back in.
What the photos show
- Day one, June 12. Three rolls of carpet laid out across the painted concrete, with a box of carpet gripper (tack strip) by the far wall, ready to go around the edges.
- Finished, June 13. Grey cut-pile carpet running wall to wall and around the support posts, with the room furnished again.
How a basement carpet job runs
Basement carpet goes over concrete, so the slab is checked for moisture and low spots before anything goes down. Tack strip goes around the edges, then the underpad, then the carpet, which is power-stretched so it stays flat. Trim and transitions go back last. Choosing carpet for a basement
Basements run cooler and can be damp, so the carpet and pad matter more than upstairs. Synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester handle a basement better than wool, and a moisture-resistant underpad over a dry slab keeps the carpet fresh. If the slab shows signs of moisture, waterproof vinyl plank is the safer floor.
What a job like this costs
Installed carpet in Mississauga runs about $4 to $10 per sq ft with underpad, before HST. For a 600 sq ft basement that works out to roughly $2,400 to $6,000, depending on the carpet you pick and how much prep the floor needs.
